visp 1.0.6 Released for AIR 1.0

I just wanted to drop a line and let folks know that visp 1.0.6 was just released, making it fully compatible with Adobe AIR 1.0. Please post any bugs that you find to the Google Code Issues section. I only did some minimal testing to make sure that it works.

No new features were added in this release.

visp 1.0.5 Released

Thanks for your patience on the latest 1.0.5 release which makes visp compatible with the latest public beta of Adobe AIR (Beta 3). However, with this release came no new features, I’m sorry to say. Things are a little busy on the personal front and it might be some time before I get to add some features.

I do want to say, though, that I will be maintaining compatibility with all Adobe AIR releases up through version 1.0.

Tutorials Updated for Flex Builder 3 Beta 2 Compatibility

I’ve just finished updating the Setting Up visp in Adobe® Flex Builder™ 3 tutorial and the Creating a Custom Renderer (Media) tutorial to be in line and compatible with the new Flex Builder 3 Public Beta 2 release.

Those two tutorials are probably the most crucial on this site, so if there’s anything I can do to improve them in some way, please don’t hesitate to let me know (via the comments on this post or the visp Mailing List).

Thanks for your patience everyone. I hope you enjoy visp.

New Site Content and AIR Beta 2

A new public beta (Beta 2) of Adobe AIR was released today, and I’m working toward migrating the existing codebase of visp to be compatible with this new release. Actually, the codebase is already migrated; I’m just working on getting the assets packaged up for public consumption. Look for it within the next 2 days.

In addition to this, I posted a video that demos visp’s MIDI integration through the visp MIDI Proxy Java application. Check out the Setting Up MIDI screencast to get a taste of how it all works.

New Content Posted

I’ve just posted a video introduction to visp which you can find on this page. It’s about eight minutes long and should act as a good overview to the application, how it works, and what it can do.

I also added a tutorial for setting up a project for visp in Adobe® Flex Builder™ 3. This will allow you to compile visp on your own and modify it as you see fit.

Lastly I created a page that acts as an overview for creating a custom filter. A step-by-step tutorial on that topic is a little daunting at this point in time, so instead I cover off on the pieces that make up a filter along with some thoroughly documented source code.

One more video to create, however, which will walk you through how the MIDI connectivity and features work in visp.

More Content Is On Its Way

Over the past couple of weeks, I have been trying to fill in the holes where tutorial-oriented content is needed to get folks up and runnning with visp. We’re in the home stretch now — at least for the primary launch content — but I still have a couple more crucial pieces to create before the launch is official.

On my list of priorities this week are the following pieces of content for the site:

  • A step-by-step tutorial for importing the visp source code into Adobe ® Flex Builder&trade 3 so that you can compile it yourself.
  • A screencast walkthrough of visp’s interface and functionality.
  • A screencast walkthrough of setting up your external MIDI interface and using the visp MIDI Proxy application.

I realize that there isn’t much incentive to download and invest time in creating your own content for this application until you’ve seen it in action. So I’m working hard to get these pieces done ASAP.

Thanks for your patience, everyone.
